Hypnotherapy Courses: An introduction to our Strategic Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Courses
Hypnotherapy is a series of processes and therapeutic techniques that use accredited hypnosis training to access and address the unconscious mind. For a long time, experts believed that meaningful and sustained change could be achieved using a standardised set of scripted hypnotic commands. But the range of therapeutic techniques has evolved a significant amount in the last few decades.
Unlike stage hypnosis, the purpose of clinical hypnotherapy training is to teach prospective hypnotherapists how to bypass the conscious interference of their clients’ minds. In this way, practitioners can help them solve problems at an unconscious level.
In 2001, a working group was commissioned to survey the evidence compiled on the effectiveness of clinical hypnosis as a therapeutic tool by the British Psychological Society. According to their findings,
‘Enough studies have now accumulated to suggest that the inclusion of hypnotic procedures may be beneficial in the management and treatment of a wide range of conditions and problems encountered in the practice of medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy’.
With the acceptance of clinical hypnosis as a valid therapeutic solution by both the medical and mental health professions, more clients than ever are open to exploring this option. This, in turn, means that taking accredited hypnotherapy courses is not just a good idea, it is essential. With this powerful tool in your arsenal, you can provide clients with a treatment scientifically proven to deliver long-term results.
One of the most effective modern forms of hypnotherapy employs Strategic Psychotherapy. A term coined by Dr Jay Hayley, it is a form of therapy that falls under the broad spectrum of ‘cognitive behavioural brief therapies’. With this approach, the clinician will first work with their client to define and agree on the issues to be targeted and the final goal of the treatment.
Once this has been established, clinical hypnotherapists will then design a treatment program that applies a specific approach for each individual problem. Rather than using a one size fits all treatment plan, strategic psychotherapists use a blend of different methods and approaches to treat these issues. A blend tailored to both the preferences and needs of each individual client.
This may include NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) techniques as well as certain cognitive/behavioural methods.

IAP Hypnotherapy Courses in Melbourne
You’ll encourage people to access their true potential through the more positive use of their imaginations. Mental imagery is incredibly powerful, especially when someone is in a focused state of attention. It seems that the mind is most capable of using imagery to embody what people imagine, even if it’s only symbolic.
You’ll present ideas and make suggestions to your client. When someone’s attention is concentrated, ideas and suggestions that are compatible with their desires seem to have a more powerful impact on their mind.
You’ll facilitate unconscious exploration. By turning off the critical censor of the conscious mind, you’ll be able to help your clients better identify whether past experiences have anything to do with current problems, and also to understand the motivations behind current behaviour.
One of the founding figures of Strategic Psychotherapy, Jay Haley, explains that:
“Strategic Psychotherapy does not seek meaning in the past (ask why) and assume the client will change with insight. It seeks patterns and processes in the now (asks how) and shows the client where different choices can be made to enable them to change.”
Instead of using just one approach to treat whatever mental health problem they are facing, Strategic Psychologists will combine a variety of modalities in a customised sequence. Along with making use of what you learned about hypnosis, you can use Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and other cognitive/behavioural techniques.
Strategic Psychotherapy is considered the leading discipline in the field of hypnotherapy. And with trainers who are considered among the best hypnotherapists in Australia, and among the best in the world, you will be equipped with the best possible foundation for your private practice.

Our experience is that it is hard to absorb the material and become competent when
there is no time for experimentation and feedback over a period of time.

retrained people from other schools who either pulled out or completed and did not

“Originally I trained with (ANOTHER SYDNEY SCHOOL) I met Gordon through a friend
and he generously invited me to sit in on his class for a day. Even though technically I was
already qualified, I stayed!!!! The difference in the quality of the training, the content and the
delivery was immediately obvious. I filled in a lot of experiential gaps I still had even after 18
months of training.”
It was practical, professional and fun. If I had my time over again I would not hesitate …I
would save my time and money and train with the Australian Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy.”
