Formerly a university tutor, Lisa has co-authored a series of textbooks which have sold over one million copies. Lisa’s first hypnotherapy training was very traditional and script based with Rick Collingwood. Lisa practiced for many years as a ‘traditional’ hypnotherapist but was disappointed with only a 30% success rate (typical of traditional hypnosis)
However, whilst she was the Workshop Coordinator for the AHA (Australian Hypnotherapists Association) in WA, she facilitated a workshop by Gordon Young. It started her on a new path to modern hypnotherapy. Since then she has studied extensively with both Gordon (IAP) and Dr Michael Yapko, arguably the best hypnotherapist in the world today, and a world leader in the field of depression.
Excited to share that I’m starting a new position at a school in Sydney. After an amazing year or so off from school and teaching life, whilst studying my CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling with the Institute of Applied Psychology, I am so excited to get back into that hubbub of learning and growth!

Over the last few days, I’ve been immersed in a counselling course, and it’s been an eye-opening experience. As an Engagement Director, I often work with large groups of people, from clients to teams, navigating complex challenges and driving outcomes. But beyond the professional roles we all carry, there’s always a deeply human side. This course reminded me of how essential it is to truly see people, listen with empathy, understand different perspectives, and create space where trust and collaboration can thrive. Developing these skills isn’t just valuable in counselling; they are critical in leadership, relationship management, and building environments where people feel respected and heard. Because at the end of the day, sustainable results come not only from strategies and execution, but also from recognising and valuing the human element in every interaction.
I’m pleased to share that I’ve recently completed my Coaching Certification, Practitioner of Time-Based Therapy, Practitioner of Emotional Intelligence, and NLP Practitioner Certification through the Institute of Applied Psychology. These qualifications mean so much not just because of what I’ve achieved, but because of when I achieved them. I completed these programs during a time of significant change – leaving a job, starting a new one, and moving homes — all while keeping my commitment to learning and growth. To me, these programs weren’t about the paper qualification or adding another title to my name, they were about learning powerful, practical techniques to help people whom I deeply care about reach their full potential.
